Abu Dhabi Police have arrested four men suspected of robbing bank customers in broad daylight.
Police said on Tuesday that the Asian men had carried out the robberies in two separate incidents over the recent days.
In one of the incidents, a 64-year-old Asian man complained to the police after an unknown person stole an envelope containing Dh20,000 from his pocket near one of the banks in the capital.
In a separate incident, a 48-year-old Arab woman was robbed after the men tricked her into believing that her vehicle had a flat tyre.
Brigadier Ahmed Saif Bin Zaytoun Al Muhairi, Director of the Capital Police Directorate, said that when the woman moved out of the car to check the tyres, the men took her handbag that contained money from the car.
The officer said that the police had rushed to both places following complaints from the victims and begun investigations into the thefts.
Al Muhairi said that basing on the information obtained by the detectives that also showed that the criminals used similar methods in both robberies, the force tracked down the suspects and arrested the four men.
The suspects were later lined up and the victims were able to identify the men who robbed them.
The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
Lieutenant Saeed Bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Director of the city police station in the Capital Police Directorate said the force has warned people several times through the various social media channels, to be aware of the tricks that are used by the thieves.
Bank customers have been told not to pay attention to anyone who intercepts their way after withdrawing money from banks and to be cautious about anyone approaching them after making withdrawals from banks.
People have been told to immediately report to the police at 999 in case they spot the presence of any such elements around the banks.
