A policeman burgled a family’s home after his request to marry their daughter was rejected, Dubai Criminal Court heard.
The officer, along with another policemen and a friend, stole 10 smartphones, an iPad, two cameras, 16 watches, a TV and jewellery after breaking into the house in Al Barsha.
The three men, all Emiratis, aged 22, 24, and 26, denied charges of burglary and damaging property when they appeared in court.
A 33-year-old Emirati said she and her family left their home on September 7. They returned a week later to find it in a mess.
"We called police and they told us that thieves broke into the house through the living room window. At the beginning I suspected in the driver," said the woman.
Officers were able to track down her husband’s phone to the policemen’s friend after she provided them with the serial number. He told them found it in the desert but later said he bought it from one of the policemen.
"He told us that he bought it from a policeman. When we investigated with the officer, he also claimed he found it in the desert, but when we arrested the third man following further investigations it turned out they stole it from the house," said an Emirati policeman.
