A Pakistani man went on trial in the Court of First Instance on charges of forgery and fraud as he is believed to have fraudulently availed of Dh31,259 worth of telecommunication services.
According to public prosecution records, the 28-year-old man's wrongdoings date to (and prior to) March last year when he forged two copies of trading licenses of two companies and falsely claimed that they were issued by the Land Department. He also used a forged visa of a woman when he applied for mobile numbers and smart phones.
"The accused had worked for the plaintiff in Dubai for about one year and had been a salesman offering products and services to corporate customers. If those customers got interested in the offers, he would then get the original documents of the company's establishment card, the ID of the company's representative and had their signatures on the applications," a PRO at the plaintiff told the prosecutor. "Those applications would be then sent to the section concerned at the plaintiff for verification and then they would be sent to the telecom provider to issue the numbers and other products."
"We learned, however, through the telecom provider that they received complaints from a company about getting bills on numbers which it had not applied for and of which it was unaware."
