A gypsy child plays in a shelter in the village of Dealu, 40 kilometers north of Bucharest, Romania, on a hot day. Romanian Gypsy families manufacture bricks as a means of subsistence braving temperatures that often go above 38 degrees centigrade and living in makeshift shelters . The bricks sell for for about 0.12 euro (17 US cents) a piece, a quarter of the factory made bricks price. Romania, a European Union member, is home to a large Gypsy, or Roma, community.
