The Turkish military on Saturday said that about 20 members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) were killed after trying to attack an army base in the southeastern Hakkari province.
Russia Today cited a statement by the army saying that the PKK elements entered Turkey from Iraq and attempted to attack bases in the mountainous border region.
Turkey's mainly Kurdish southeast has been rocked by violence since a 2-1/2 year ceasefire between the government and the PKK broke down in July last year.
