Policeman killed, another injured by fugitive

A member of the public security forces was shot dead and another wounded Saturday when a man wanted on criminal charges fired shots at a highway patrol in the southern city of Maan, according to a security source.
It said the security men, a sergeant and a local civilian recruited by the public security department, were inside their vehicle when the fugitive, who had a criminal police record, opened fire from a weapon in his possession, injuring them.
It said the two men, who suffered gunshot wounds to various parts of their bodies, were treated on the spot, but the sergeant was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.
The source said an investigation was launched and the shooter was being hunted by police.
