New York transit officials said they are launching a pilot program that will see entire sections of the subway system shut down on weeknights.MTA officials told WNBC, New York, that rather than limit track and maintenance to weekends, they will do it overnight during the week. The experiment will begin on the Lexington Avenue line between Grand Central Terminal and Atlantic Avenue shutting down parts of the 4, 5 and 6 trains between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.Beginning Jan. 9, those trains will be shut down for several days in a row, the MTA said Monday. The agency estimates the work will take nine days instead of 36 days on weekends. However, commuters are not happy about the plan.Deborah Pinkston of Riverdale, N.Y., questioned the impact it would have on night workers.\"People work late. Night shift, working till midnight -- how are they gonna get home?\" she asked.Kathy Cruz of the Bronx told WNBC she doesn\'t get off work until midnight. She called the plan a \"big inconvenience.\"
