Abkhazian President Alexander Ankvab began his first visit to Moscow as elected president on Wednesday. Ankvab will hold talks Thursday with President Dmitry Medvedev on issues including Russian aid to Sukhumi, and property rights for Russian residents in the Caucasian republic, according to a Kremlin source. Ankvab took office on September 26 after winning the Abkhazian presidential election on August 26. Sergei Bagapsh, who headed the republic since 2005, died in a Moscow hospital on May 29 after a complicated operation on his lungs.
