Police shot and wounded a handgun-toting man on the University of California, Berkeley, campus Tuesday afternoon, officials said. The incident occurred about 2:15 p.m. PST in a computer lab in the university\'s Haas School of Business, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The 33-year-old man, whose name and condition were not released, was shot by one of several campus police officers, officials said.Campus police Chief Mitch Celaya said the man \"displayed\" the weapon in \"a threatening manner.\"The officers, in fear for themselves and individuals around them, fired a shot at the individual, hitting him,\" the chief said. The officers involved, whose names also were not released, were put on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. It was not known why the man, who was being treated at an Oakland hospital, was on the campus with a gun, Celaya said. The newspaper said officials said there was no immediate indication the shooting had anything to do with an Occupy Cal protest on campus.University Chancellor Robert Birgeneau said at least four students were in the lab at the time of the shooting. None were injured, the newspaper said. The school alerted the campus community via text and e-mail alerts.
