A 37-year-old Asian resident succumbed to fatal injuries he received after the refrigerated box truck he was travelling in with his friend, the driver, rammed into a lamppost in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
The gruesome road accident took place on Sunday at around 8:00 am, according to Brigadier Hassan Ibrahim Ali, Deputy Director General of the
Central Operations Room of the RAK police.
"The 27-year-old driver, also Asian, lost control over the steering wheel, veered off the road, and collided with a strong steel lamppost on the side of the road here on the Martyrs road, RAK."
The central operations room of the RAK Police, having been alerted of the collision, dispatched traffic police, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site in a record time.
"Initial investigations and enactment of the mishap show that the driver of the refrigerated truck box was surprised by an unidentified car which overtook him in a wrong way."
The truck driver tried to avoid collision with that speeding car, but instead he lost control over his truck, veered off the road, and rammed into the lamp post, he explained.
"The truck driver did not receive any injuries, but his friend was badly injured and bled excessively that he could not make it and died on the spot."
The corpse of the victim was moved to the morgue of the hospital for burial by relatives as due, Brig. said. "The accident file was referred to the RAK traffic prosecution for legal action."
"Such careless practices shall be stringently penalised as those callous drivers put the life of road users and theirs in a grave risk."
