The land rescue section of the Dubai Police rescued six women, who were trapped in the elevator of a villa, a senior police officer has said.
Maj.-Gen. Abdullah Bishoh, head of the land rescue department at the Dubai Police, said these women were among the people rescued in five different accidents during the Eid holidays. However, there were no casualties in these incidents, he said.
The other people rescued in the incidents handled by the officials included a man who got locked up in his room, as well as passengers of a minibus and two cars which were overturned due to speeding in different areas in Dubai.
"No causalities have been reported in all these accidents because of the efforts made by rescue teams to save the lives of the people involved," he said.
Major Bishoh explained that the land rescue teams were prepared to deal with various types of incidents.
"The rescue team received a report about the women who were stuck in the elevator of a villa in the Telal Al Emarat area on the second day of the holidays. They rushed to the site and managed to rescue the women using an elevator's switch key."
The rescue teams also rescued a sick man, who got locked up in his room in the Mezhar area, after receiving a call from his family on the first day of Eid. It also removed the overturned vehicles including a minibus which was being used as a mobile refrigerator to transport goods.
Maj-Gen Bishoh said that the department trains individuals to deal with various types of rescue operations as per the highest international standards, pointing out that the staff are trained to use the latest tools in various types of land accidents, and carry out periodic exercises throughout the year. Their level is measured and refresher courses are given.
