At least three people were confirmed killed and two missing after heavy rain triggered floods in China this week, state media reports said Friday.
In the south-western municipality of Chongqing, two people died and another two were missing while 9,000 people have evacuated, according to Xinhua news agency. The area's flooding caused estimated economic losses of around 750 million yuan (110 million US dollars), the report said.
In Jiangxi province in the south-east, an elderly woman drowned in floodwater and the storm brought traffic to a standstill on Thursday. In the central province of Hubei, flooding damaged more than 26,000 hectares of crops, resulting in economic losses of more than 400 million yuan, Xinhua reported.
Regional weather forecasters warned residents to expect more storms this month.
China is bracing for a major flood year, according to Xinhua.
