Nigerian military Officers announced that 83 soldiers are missing after Boko Haram extremists attacked a remote base in northeastern the country.
The Officers said the soldiers were unable to fight back or flee from the military base because of the superiority of Boko Haram militants in military equipment.
Army spokesman Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman said last week that some soldiers were missing and 13 others were wounded when the insurgents on Oct. 17 attacked their base in Gashigar village, on the border with Niger. Usman did not give the actual number of the disappeared soldiers.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged to improve arming the Nigerian army after he was elected in March 2015.
