Six people, including a 64-year-old woman and her four grandchildren, were found dead Saturday after severe storms triggered flooding in Palestine, a city in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Texas on Friday night.
After being swept away by fast-moving flood waters, the bodies of a 64-year-old woman and her four grandchildren, ages 6 to 9, were discovered by city rescuers earlier on Saturday, according to CBS NEWS.
The body of the sixth victim, a 30-year-old man, was found later Saturday. All the six bodies have been sent to a nearby city for autopsies.
Palestine, a city about 240 km north of Houston, is home to about 18,000 residents. Authorities said that storms triggered the flooding on Friday night, which quickly reached the roofs of some homes in the city, including the residence where five of the victims were found.
It was the worst flooding the city had seen in more than 30 years, and some 20 to 30 residents are currently displaced. Enditem
