Daoud Al Hajri, Acting Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee, has stressed that the achievements of UAE skeet shooters during the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku were the result of their earlier preparations to raise the UAE’s flag at major sporting events.
He noted that Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoumwon a silver medal, while Saif bin Futais won a bronze medal.
Al Hajri made this statement during the welcoming ceremony organised by the Olympic Committee for the National Shooting Team returning from the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, in the presence of Ahmed Al Kamali, Chairman of the Federation of Athletics; Rabie Al Awadi, Deputy Chairman of the Shooting Federation; Mohammed bin Darwish, Executive Director of the Olympic Committee; Salim Al Habsi, Sports Programmes Department Manager in the Committee, and media representatives.
He said that the UAE shooters proved their worthiness during this competitive championship, where 54 countries from three continents had participated.
Al Kamali conveyed the greetings of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the UAE National Olympic Committee, who praised their achievements and wished them the best of luck for the upcoming Asian Shooting Championship in Astana and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games.
Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum spoke about his readiness for the Asian Championships next August and the Tokyo Olympics preparation programmes while expressing his hope that the UAE would win more medals in other sports during these championships.
He also expressed hope that Saif bin Futais would achieve better results in upcoming international and regional championships, especially the Asian Championships and the Tokyo Olympics.
