I will still serve Al Ahly

Rania Elwani Cairo - Omar al-Banouby Rania Elwani, is the most prominent name in Egyptian and Arab swimming. Despite her retirement, she continues to shine, and serves the Egyptian and Arab chapter of the sport through her membership of the international and Egyptian Olympic committees, in addition to being one of the board of directors of the Al Ahly football club. Many rumours have circulated about Elwani's differences between herself and the members of the board of directors for her rejection to participate in the lawsuit made by the board against the National Sports Council, which was filed to cause the Council to cancel the amendments made to the policy related to clubs, which is known in media as the crises of the eight years Section, which will prevent the board of director members from contesting the next elections. In this interview with Arabstoday, Rania Elwani answers the questions of her fans and of the followers of the Arab and Egyptian sport. AT: At first, what is your comment on endorsing the new policy of the clubs, known in the media as the crisis of the eight years Section, which will lead to preventing you from being a candidate in the membership of the board of directors in the coming round? RE: No comment on the decision of the National Sports Council AT: What is your stance regarding Al Ahly, after your expected resigmation from the board, along with the current members? RE: Our official positions are not a condition to serve the club. We will always be there to continue working for the sake of the club. AT: Did differences take place between you and the board, for your rejection to participate in the lawsuit filed against the National Sports Council to stop the eight years Section. RE: Not true, there were no differences which occurred, because I explained to them the reason for not participating in the lawsuit, as I was a member of the delegation responsible for promoting for the file “Alexandria 2017” to host the Mediterranean Games, which is being supervised by the Council. It was nonsense to work with the Council in a national mission and prosecute it on the other hand. This was understood by the boarder. AT: Did you fail to promote “Alexandria 2017?” RE: Of course not, but we lost by two votes. Acquiring this number of votes in light of the situation Egypt is an achievement. AT: What about your role in the London 2012 Olympics ? RE: I will be present in London as a member of the international Olympic committee, and will hold the Olympic torch on July 24. AT: Who did you vote for in the first round of Egypt presidential elections? RE: I will not state which candidate i voted for in the first round or the second.
