Brent McMahon is back in Brazil to defend his Ironman South American Championship title. The Canadian set a new course record and the third fastest Ironman time ever last year to take the crown.
“I get excited for every race I do but Ironman Brazil is a special one,” he says. “I have set records and challenged my abilities here in the past so I am keen to test myself again and see if I can raise the bar even higher.”
McMahon has four sub-8 hour finishes under his belt, and the fast course in Florianopolis along with a good build into this race could set the stage for his fifth finish under that magical mark. He says, “Training has been pointing in this direction, so I can't wait to toe the line.”
He just needs to be faster than the rest of the 60-deep field to claim the win and the automatic start for the Ironman World Championship. Come Sunday he will be ready to do that, and more.
