The chairman of South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Choi Yun-hee and the commander of the South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command General Curtis Scaparrotti held discussions on Tuesday focused on ways to respond to North Korea's recent test-fire of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM).
Choi and Scaparrotti are said to have discussed ways to monitor North Korean submarine activities with reconnaissance equipment from the Combined Forces Command, including reconnaissance satellites, U-2 reconnaissance planes and Aegis destroyers, Korea's (KBS WORLD) website reported.
The two officials are also said to have considered deploying additional U.S. Aegis destroyers equipped with SM-3 missiles to prepare for the possibility of a North Korean submarine firing a SLBM in waters far from the frontline.
