Israeli artillery shelled two security posts east of Rafah southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday in response to what the Israeli side called a mortar attack on an Israeli patrol near the border fence between Israel and the Palestinian enclave.
Israel radio claimed that armed Palestinians fired a shell on the army and Israeli tanks responded by firing a shell on a Palestinian post.
Palestinian sources said the Israeli shelling targeted a post belonging to the Hamas Interior Ministry.
On Tuesday, Palestinian gunmen opened fire at an Israeli patrol near the border fence with no casualties reported.
