Iran sent a cargo plane carrying humanitarian aid, including medical equipment, to Yemen on Sunday, Fars News Agency reported.
The cargo plane, sent by the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), is the first plane to land in Yemen in several years.
"The IRCS has dispatched aid packages, including tents, blankets, and medical products weighing 14 tons to Yemen," Shahabeddin Mohammadi Araqi, IRCS deputy managing director for international and humanitarian affairs said.
Mohammadi Araqi noted that the IRCS is ready to dispatch a second shipment if the Yemeni government asks for more aid.
Yemen has been suffering political unrest since a popular uprising that erupted in 2011, ending the autocracy of President Ali Abdullah Saleh a year later.
