Five soldiers from Afghan National Army and 29 insurgents have been killed during separate military operations across the country in past 24 hours, statements issued Wednesday morning by the ministries of interior and defense stated.
According to the statement issued by General Zahir Azimi, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, five soldiers were killed due to Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion and enemy fires.
The statement does not contain information about the exact location of the incidents, according to the Afghan ( Khaama Press), In the meantime, a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) states that 29 insurgents have been killed in separate military operations in past 24 hours.
MoI statement adds that the operations were conducted in 12 provinces Laghman, Takhar, Nangarhar, Kunduz, Sar-e-Pul, Kandahar, Zabul, Maidan Wardak, Farah, Helmand and Ghazni provinces where 32 insurgents were also wounded during confrontations with security forces.
The operations were jointly conducted by Afghan National Police, Afghan National Army and personnel from the National Directorate of Security (NDS), the statement adds.
Eleven different types of IEDs were also defused by the security forces, the statement states.
Security forces are currently conducting several operations in parts of the country including Operation Zulfiqar in Helmand and Operation Nusrat in Ghazni.
