Emily Blunt said in a recent interview that children should be exposed to darker stories than they currently are.
The 31-year-old actress portrays a baker's wife desperate to get pregnant in Disney's cinematographic adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's musical Into The Woods -- a tale that sees several of the Grimm Brothers' characters reunite as they face not-so-happy endings -- and while she discussed the movie's dark side with The Guardian, Blunt reflected on how the not-so-happy aspects of life.
"Chris Pine [who plays Prince Charming] was telling me that most schools in America only do the first act of the play, where everything is happy ever after," she said. "And it's just sad that we're choosing to coddle our children that way, because no one's more perceptive than a child."
Further, the mother of one said that keeping children from the realities of life is ultimately disadvantageous.
"If you want to fairytale the [expletive] out of everything, you're doing everyone a disservice," she asserted.
Blunt, who is up for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her role in the film, welcomed her first child with husband John Krasinski in February 2014.
