More than 5000 complaints were registered with the Public Authority for Consumer Protection in 2016 - the majority against the food sector.
According to data from the Directorate General of Studies and Development at PACP, 5883 complaints were registered with the authority last year.
The food consumption sector topped the list of complaints with 1789 on record followed by “other products” sector with 1023 while “other-services” sector registered 735.
Restaurants and cafes received 567 complaints followed by barbershops and salons with 347 on record. The clothing sector registered 292 complaints last year followed by the contracting sector with 233.
Electrical and electronic sectors registered 166 complaints last year while vehicle repair workshops receive 141. Car dealerships, spare parts and tire sectors recorded 128, 105 and 76 complaints respectively.
The telephone sector and its services registered 68 complaints followed by the livestock and animal feed sector with 51 complaints.
The head office of PACP in Muscat Governorate handled the most complaints with 1275 on record followed by the department in Seeb with 1146 and North Al Batinah 1112 in third place.
