Foreign Minister Abdel Malek al Mekhlafi
Riyadh - Arab Today

The Yemeni government will start work from Aden within two weeks at most to follow up securing liberated areas, restructuring the state’s institutions and encouraging Yemenis to hold protests against Houthis, Foreign Minister Abdel Malek al Mekhlafi announced on Thursday.

Speaking to the London-based Al Hayat Saudi Newspaper, Mekhlafi, during his participation in the 71st UN General Assembly in New York, said that the Yemeni government agrees to give guarantees to all parties, including the Houthis in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution 2216, the Gulf Initiative and the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference (NDC).

The former president Ali Abdullah Saleh will not have any political role any more in Yemen, Mekhlafi added.

The Yemeni top-diplomat urged Russia to pressure Iran to stop its interference in Yemen, saying that Iran exploits the Yemeni crisis as a political bargaining chip to put more strain on Gulf countries to wink at the Syrian crisis.

Also, he asserted that the Yemeni government is determined to file a complaint against Iran at the UN to stop smuggling weapons into the country.

The Yemeni government’s decision to move the headquarters of the Yemeni Central Bank to Aden is irreversible, he noted.

Furthermore, the Yemeni foreign minister accused the Houthis of recruiting children in the conflict.
