As part of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa’s directives to support the Palestinian cause, and Bahrain’s backing of all brotherly countries at regional and international gatherings, the Governing Council of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) unanimously adopted a draft resolution adopted and presented by the Kingdom of Bahrain on sustainable urban development in Palestine.
The proposal was submitted by the Kingdom’s delegation to 26th session of the Governing Council of UN-Habitat (GC26), held recently in Kenya.
Aiming to support sustainable development projects in Palestine through the UN-Habitat, the Bahrain-backed draft resolution stems from Bahrain’s unwavering support to the Palestinian cause and its keenness to molbilise global support to implement development projects that fulfill the aspirations of the Bahraini society in various fields of sustainable development.
The adoption of the resolution submitted by the kingdom is a new success for Bahrain’s foreign policy aiming to secure international efforts to improve the living conditions of humans, especially in light of HRH the Prime Minister’s interest in sustainable development issues.
Themed “Opportunities for the effective implementation of the New Urban Agenda,” GC26 discussed mechanisms to implement the New Urban Agenda adopted during the Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III), held in Quito, Ecuador in October 2016.
It is to be noted that the Palestinian President, Mahmood Abbas, lauded, while address the conference of Palestinian Ambassadors to Arab and Islamic Countries, the role played by HRH the Prime Minister to support the Palestinian cause. He also lauded the support of the Bahraini leadership and people to the Palestinians
