Dubai - Arab Today

The UAE’s political leadership considers cultural and scientific exchange, promotion of diversity, respect for others and peaceful co-existence as the core pillars for building a human civilisation that spreads goodness, said Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Media Council, NMC.

''The UAE always advocates dialogue and debate to reshape the future, spread values of positivity and promote constructive thoughts,'' Al Jaber told representatives of news agency on the sidelines of Day Two of the fifth World Government Summit, WGS, being held in Dubai. He described the summit as an important platform for dialogue and exchanges as well as an influential instrument for shaping the future of mankind and improving lives of individuals and communities.

''This year’s three-day WGS holds special significance due to diverse contents of the sessions in addition to the presence of influential experts in various fields. The agenda of the fifth WGS covers three main themes - youths, climate change and happiness. Panellists and experts exchange ideas and analyse these topics,'' he stated.

The success of the previous summits rested on the scope of spreading awareness about the importance of co-operation among different communities and mobilising efforts to build a better future for human beings, Al Jaber noted.

The minister underlined that the media constitutes the building block for any development process and is the most effective tool in fostering and disseminating values of tolerance in order to face conflicts and wars fuelled by extremist thoughts that exclude others.

''Our extending relationship with the media is based on strategic partnership,'' he stressed, adding that media organisations should assume an essential role in narrowing differences, nurturing human values, and sharing knowledge and culture in today’s world.

Highlighting the critical role news agencies should play in spreading awareness and debunking destructive ideologies, Al Jaber said, ''Our mandate as media persons is not confined to relay news stories; it goes beyond that limit to make positive content and raise community awareness.'' Al Jaber hoped that this international, high-profile event should be leveraged to expand prospects of co-operation and chart new courses that ensure the delivery of renewed, influential media content.
