The UAE is not affected by the 6.2 magnitude earthquake which hit southern Iran, 208km northeast of Ras Al Khaimah, early on Saturday, the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology in the UAE (NCMS) has reported. Measuring 3 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, the quake, which occurred at 6.08am at a depth of 33km, was followed at 7.09am by 18 aftershocks measuring up to 5.6 on the Richter scale, it said. NCMS emphasised that the UAE was not affected by the quake. The same area was hit by a 4.9 magnitude quake at 12.01pm on Thursday May 9, it noted.
