Wrapping up their European tour which was started in London, then moved to Geneva and Strasbourg, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’ delegation, led by Said bin Mohammed Al Fihani hosted a work luncheon in honour of representative of the British Conservative Party in the European Parliament David Bannerman.
Al Fihani presented a briefing on NIHR’s work strategy, goals and specialties included in its foundation law according to Paris principles. He also highlighted the institution’s role in promoting the culture of human rights.
Responding to Bannerman’s query regarding the current crisis with Qatar, NIHR President revealed that Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt had severed their diplomatic relations with Qatar because of its support to terrorism and funding of the terrorist groups who are shaking regional security and stability and violating human rights. He noted that the allegations made by Qatar’s National Committee for Human Rights on violation of human rights by the countries calling for combating terrorism are baseless, pointing out the noble directives to take into consideration humanitarian cases of joint families, should they exist, to maintain the family texture.
Al Fihani asserted that Bahrain’s human rights record is honourable, stressing the kingdom’s resolve to go ahead with preserving human rights to ensure security and stability of all people in the kingdom thanks to the leadership’s support and the steps taken in this respect including the setting up of NIHR.
