President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Wednesday asserted that the city of Port Said is a city of steadfastness and perseverance.
In his speech at a ceremony marking the inauguration of Port Said Cultural Complex, the president added that the city will remain a great symbol of Egypt and Egyptians.
The city, noted the president, had a very honorable history during the 50s and 60s of the past century.
The president said that Port Said will be celebrated by mid next year as a first governorate in Egypt free from unplanned areas.
In his speech at the ceremony of inaugurating Port Said Cultural Complex, the president added that real development requires some time to be achieved.
Sisi noted that he discussed with the minister of housing setting up 500 residential units to be built in the last unplanned area in Port Said.
President Sisi said that East Port Said harbor and the industrial area, which stretches over 40 million meters, are a genuine opportunity for development not only for Port Said inhabitants but also for all the Delta residents and other governorates.
He added that tunnels which are being built now will link east and west Port Said with the industrial area and fish farms that are carried out by the Suez Canal Authority along with the major farms that are implemented by the Armed Forces over an area of 18,000-19,000 feddans.
The president underlined on this score that the government is working for providing jobs for the young people. He added that every youth would apply to obtain a plot of land over which they would build a factory and start an activity. He pointed out in this regard that the Central Bank of Egypt is extending soft loans at an interest rate of five percent for the young people to start their business.
The president said that the Suez Canal Authority set up last year 12 big fishing vessels to replace small fishing boats.
He added that the government does not spare any effort for extending valuable services for the citizens in the various domains including education, health care, housing and culture.
Sisi urged the government will set up a museum for the heroic acts of Port Said residents, urging the ministry of education to include these heroism stories in the curriculum.
The president also called for establishing several hotels in Port Said as part of its development plan and in an effort to attract more tourists to visit the city.
