A young fuel smuggler was wounded in an exchange of fire with Egyptian security forces in the southern Sinai peninsula on Saturday, security officials said. An armed 19-year-old opened fire on security officials after they ambushed his vehicle in Abu Rudeis, and officers returned fire, security officials told Ma'an. The teen was wounded in the abdomen and right thigh and was transferred to Sharm el-Sheikh hospital in police custody, they said. Egypt security are battling fuel smugglers who divert government-subsidized fuel to the black market, including transfer to the Gaza Strip via an underground tunnel network.
