The Supreme State Security Prosecution started on Sunday interrogating former secretary general of the State Council Counselor Wael Shalaby over bribery charges.
Shalaby is expected to be questioned about links with three other suspects, including State Council's Procurement Director General Gamal Eddin Mohamed el Labban, who have been remanded into custody pending investigations into a bribery charge.
On Saturday, the State Council accepted the resignation of Wael Shalaby.
The Council assigned Counselor Fouad Abdel Fattah Mohamed Abdel Rehim to take over responsibilities of the secretary-general of the State Council.
It also formed a committee to examine all contracts signed by the State Council during the past five years to make sure they were in compliance with the law.
The council asserted that it would never cover up any corruption or violation of law.
Upon searching Laban’s house, the Administrative Control Authority (ACA) found a total of EGP 24 million, $4 million, 2 million Euros and more than one million Saudi Riyals, in addition to gold accessories.
