The Media Committee of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ society, present the summary of the 22st day of the collective hunger strike, which was embarked by the prisoners’ movement in the Israeli jails, under the title of “Freedom and Dignity strike” since 17th April, 2017.
-Detainees carry on the battle of freedom and dignity in the Israeli jails, in request for their basic demands which are denied by the prisons’ administration, and which was achieved previously through embarking many hunger strikes. The most prominent demands include: ending the policy of administrative detention, ending the policy of solitary confinement, ending the policy of banning families’ and lawyers’ visits, ending the policy of medical negligence and other legitimate demands.
-Prisons administration carries on its abusive measures against striking detainees. However, on a visit to the detainees Nael Barghouthi and Muhammad Qiq, they said that the prison administration has tried the detainees who joined the strike in collective trials, imposed financial sanctions and deprived them from the canteen and visits.
-The detainee Nael Barghouthi who is serving 37 years in jails, said during the lawyer’s visit that Ashkelon prison administration has confiscated their personal belongings except for the brush and toothpaste. While the detainee Muhammad Qiq said that the prison administration is holding them in dirty and narrow cells. He added that he suffers from vomiting, dizziness and weight loss of 6 kg.
– The Israeli media launches the war of rumors and lies about the strike, in order to create confusion in the Palestinian streets and between the striking detainees, and to demoralize the escalation of the strike. Where several letters from the prisons conclude that the detainees have high morale and they insist to carry on in the strike until their demands are achieved.
– The National Committee calls for participating in activities in support for the hunger strike.
-On Tuesday, a demonstration will be held in front of the headquarters of the United Nations at 12:00 pm, within the national program.
