President Bashar al-Assad received on Wednesday Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Policy and National Security at the Iranian Shura Council, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, and the accompanying delegation.
The meeting touched on the historical relations between the two countries and means to bolster and develop them in all fields, including signing economic agreements that benefit the Syrian and Iranian peoples.
President al-Assad stressed that Iran and all the states that support the Syrian people are partners in the achievements being made against terrorists, voicing appreciation of the political and economic support provided by Iran to Syria which has contributed greatly to bolstering the Syrians' steadfastness.
For his part, Boroujerdi asserted that the delegation's visit comes to congratulate the Syrian people over the victory that was achieved in Aleppo, saying that this victory is an important step towards restoring security and stability to the entirety of Syria.
He affirmed that Iran always has and always will stand alongside Syria in confronting the terrorist war targeting it, because Syria's future is very important for the stability of the region.
In the same context, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem met the Iranian delegation, discussing the situation and developments in Syria and the region in light of the important developments that took place recently in the field of politics and on the ground.
Al-Moallem affirmed that after the victory in Aleppo, Syria agreed to the initiative proposed by Russia for the cessation of combat activities as an opportunity to resume Syrian-Syrian dialogue, which would lead to a political solution for the crisis in Syria without any foreign interference.
In turn, Boroujerdi called for continuing to bolster bilateral relations, particularly between the Syrian People's Assembly and the Iranian Shura Council. --------SANA
