Thefts targeting homes increase in summer
Abu Dhabi - Emirates Voice

The police authorities of Sharjah and Ajman have urged residents to sign up for home safety service. The initiative has been launched to prevent theft cases that occur during summer, when most residents travel overseas on vacation.

Police officials at both the emirates said that most residents leave their valuables and precious items in their homes, which may be subjected to theft during their absence. Several cases had been reported where residents return from vacation to face the hard fact of losing their valuables.

The Sharjah Police launched "My neighbour's home safety is mine" initiative as a part of serious crime preventive accelerators.

Brigadier Mohamed Rashid Bayat, director of the Sharjah Police Operations, said that the initiative is part of the security and preventive measures to ensure the safety of homes. "Neighbours of residents who have travelled abroad should play an active role in ensuring the safety of their neighbours' homes. They should report any suspicious activity to the police."

Brigadier Bayat said that the Sharjah Police are currently giving priority towards the safety of residents' home because robbers avail of the opportunity to break into homes of people travelling abroad for summer vacation."We are offering our security service to residents of villas who request us to secure their homes while they are away and it's free of charge."

Meanwhile, in Ajman, the police authorities have launched security campaign "Home safety while on vacation" aiming to educate vacationers about the necessary measures needed to protect the house from theft during their absence.

Lt-Col Ali Jaber Al Shamsi, director of police stations at the Ajman Police, said that thefts targeting homes increase in summer, as burglars know that many owners leave valuables inside their houses. He added that the Ajman Police have implemented several security measures to protect residential areas by intensifying patrols.
