The prime minister noted that the government is in the process of preparing the 2018 state budget, which will be different from the previous budgets in terms of being classified by governorates.
He called for providing the Cabinet with projects and funds required to improve the agricultural sector, and the impact of each project on citizens and the national economy, within the resources available in the budget.
The prime minister said the quality of agricultural products must be developed, and mustn’t be specified to certain markets.
Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Huneifat, said the sector grew by 16.5 percent during the first quarter of this year, the highest among economic sectors, indicating that the total value of agricultural contribution to GDP amounted to about JOD1.04 billion in 2016, or 3.8 percent, while the global rate stands at 3.7 percent.
Huneifat briefed the prime minister on challenges facing the agricultural sector, such as water, employment, marketing of agricultural products and funds needed to improve the sector.
