Six candidates on Monday filed their nomination papers for the Pakistan interim prime minister’s election to be held on Tuesday, the National Assembly (NA) secretariat’s officials said.
The opposition failed to agree on one nominee, with each party throwing its weight behind different candidates who too submitted their nomination papers. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has fielded Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Pakistan Peoples Party Syed Khurshid Shah and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Sheikh Rashid, who is an ally but doesn’t belong to PTI.
The Jamaat-e Islami has nominated Sahibzada Tariqullah and Mutahida Qaumi Movement has proposed Kishwar Zahra as their candidates. Syed Naveed Qamar of the PPP will be Shah’s covering candidate.
