The Ministry of Regional Municipalities in Oman announced the closure of a halwa store in Muscat for resorting to unhygienic ways to prepare the foodstuff.
According to a Times of Oman report, a video posted online - that went viral - shows men in a shop, making halwa but using melting plastic buckets to transfer the mix from a large industrial bowl to a smaller plastic one.
The authorities closed down the outlet following the video which sparked outrage due to the serious violations that posed enormous health hazard.
The ministry has urged all factories and halwa shops to comply with the requirements and specifications, while warning that law-breakers would face legal action.
