Bahrain’s national watchdog hit back at the 2016 International Religious Freedom Report as well as the blatant statement made by the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
“The report and statement contained unsubstantiated allegations which are not corroborated by credible sources on religious liberties in Bahrain”, sand the National Institution of Human Rights (NIHR).
The watchdog refuted the allegations, denying any alleged targeting of any sect, religious community, based on religion or beliefs.
It dismissed the report and statement as unfounded theories based on sources that lack credibility. It cited the report, which was issued by the UK Foreign Commonwealth office for Human rights and democracy 2016, describing Bahrain as the most progressive country in the region.
The statement urged the party, which issued the report to contact independent entities, particularly NIHR, to scrutinize the allegations before incorporating them into the report. It reiterated keenness on cooperating in this regard.
