The Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Committee, Chaired by Dr. Aisha Salim Mubarak, paid a visit today to Muharraq Social Welfare Centre to get updated on the elderly’s enjoyment of their rights which are guaranteed by the constitution and international laws. The visit is in line with the role of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) to review legal guarantees to boost the rights of the elderly.
The delegation of NIHR was welcomed by the centre’s Director Badria Janahi who informed them about the centre’s vision, values, goals and services.
The centre’s Director hailed the visit expressing keenness on more cooperation to promote the culture of respecting the rights of the elderly.
On her part, Dr. Mubarak praised the centre’s staff, lauding their remarkable efforts to take care of the elderly. She also commended the centre’s humanitarian role in providing old people with various services.
