The Abu Dhabi Municipality has urged salons and barber shops to adhere to hygiene standards and safety rules so as to protect the health of people.
The call followed the municipality's issuance of 35 warnings to men's salons that were caught flouting rules. The salons were identified during a three-day inspection campaign that covered 235 salons in the Musaffah industrial area.
The violations detected included not cleaning premises after working on customers, use of non-sterilised equipment and others.
The municipality said it was carrying out an extensive awareness campaign spanning men's hair-dressing salons in Musaffah area with the aim of educating staff on the means of sterilising hair-cutting tools and their proper use.
Hair dressers were also taught on the sterilisation of floors, caring for personal hygiene in terms of clipping nails, shaving the beard, maintaining a decent appearance, and donning a white dress.
People visiting salons have also been told to ensure that these standards have fully adhered and to take early action towards reporting any offenses or malpractices spotted to be harmful to their health to the municipality.
