In line with King Mohammed VI’s instructions, public authorities have continued to step up their efforts to provide assistance to Moroccans stricken by the recent front of cold winter weather that has struck certain areas, particularly mountainous regions.
Since November 22, 2016, more than 50,000 people have benefited from various medical consultations, provided by two military hospitals located in Anefgou, Midelt province and Ouaouizaght, Azilal province.
Assistance has also been given at a Ministry of Health field hospital in Lakbab, Khénifra province. These details were provided by a statement from the Interior Ministry which added that an additional 50,000 people benefited from medical campaigns offering different specialties.
Public authorities and The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity have also distributed food kits, blankets and clothing items to 25,000 people, the ministry said. It noted that more than 1,500 homeless people have been hosted in reception centers.
Following heavy snowfall in some areas, resulting in the interruption of road traffic, public authorities mobilized every human and logistical resource and deployed 880 snow removal vehicles to restore traffic, the ministry pointed out.
Ten helicopters from the Royal Gendarmerie and 4 others of the Ministry of Health were mobilized, in addition to 1,200 ambulances, in order to carry out emergency medical evacuations.
