Minister of Awaqaf and Islamic Affairs Hayel Daoud said that surveillance cameras will be installed at Al Aqsa Mosque/ Al Haram Al Sharif in the coming few days.
The minister said in a statement that the Jerusalem Awqaf Department, affiliated with the Awqaf Ministry, will be in charge of the cameras, which will cover an area of 144 dunums through a control room.
"The objective behind installing these cameras is to document Israeli violations against Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem, and enable the world to follow what is happening in the courtyards of Al Aqsa Mosque around the clock," Daoud added.
The minister highlighted the legal, moral and religious importance of this step, aimed at safeguarding holy sites against Israeli transgressions.
Daoud stressed Jordan's stance, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, which emphasized that Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem are a red line for Jordan.
The minister denied allegations that the cameras will be used against "Al Murabitun", adding that these cameras will be used to protect Jerusalem and Jerusalemites.
