Information Affairs Ministry Undersecretary Abdulrahman Mohammed Bahar attended the conclusion of a training session held by the ministry in cooperation with the United Nations Media Office and dedicated to the topics of the Official Spokesperson, the Press Office and Press Conferences. Officials from various ministries took part in the two-day event organised on July 5 and 6.
The undersecretary, who oversees Bahrain News Agency (BNA), said that the session is in line with the directives of Information Minister Ali bin Mohammed Al Romaihi to develop the media skills and competencies of Bahrainis and equip them with the needed knowledge to exercise all kinds of media work.
The training will help the trainees in light of the current challenges facing the national media that require the media staff to have the capability to address public opinion with the appropriate official discourse.
He thanked the lecturer and the participants, hailing the efforts of the ministry personnel to develop media skills and stressed that such sessions represent a new opportunity to acquire new experiences.
Bahar urged the participants to broaden the scope of their knowledge to ensure accuracy in acquiring and disseminating information.
The undersecretary asserted that organising such sessions reflect the ministry’s belief that investing in Bahraini human resources is the most important investment for a better future, pointing out that the official spokesperson’s skill is essential in conducting interviews and providing accurate information.
Director of the United Nations Information Centre for the Gulf Countries Samir Al Darabi lectured in the session and highlighted principally the main roles of the official spokesperson and the relation between the institution’s press office and the media.
He pointed out that the training session is within the framework of cooperation between the United Nations Information Centre and the Information Ministry, stressing the keenness of the centre to boost coordination in the fields of technical support and training.
