A criminal court on Monday sentenced a man to death over charges of killing a police officer in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Beni Suef in 2013.
The court also sentenced 12 others to up to 15 years in prison for their involvement in the crime and the attempted killing of two other police officers, using violence with a police force and holding unlicensed weapons.
A gunfight erupted between a number of youths from two neighborhoods in Beni Suef city in 2013 and while a police force was trying to arrest the rioters, a police officer was shot and later died of his wounds.
