A Majlis A'Shura panel on Sunday called for building a productive tourism sector by tapping untapped tourism potential.
The Committee on Addressing the Economic Crisis and its Impact on the Society at Majlis A’Shura recommended to benefit more from the tourism sector in the national economy, increase the contribution of that sector to the GDP, and the implementation of general goals and strategies for the development of the tourism industry in the Sultanate after approval by the Council of Ministers.
The Committee called for building a productive tourism sector by taking advantage of all potentials of the Sultanate through paying attention to all tourist patterns, such as cultural, heritage, environmental, geological and diving tourism, in addition to setting up a documented database of all tourism activities available in the Sultanate.
The recommendations came during the discussion of Majlis A’Shura Office on the final report of the committee. The discussion took place at a joint meeting between members of the Office and members of the Committee during the Office’s 14th regular meeting of the 2nd annual sitting (2016-2017) of the 8th term under the chair of Khalid bin Hilal al-Ma’awali, Chairman of Majlis A’Shura.
The Committee stressed the need to pursue the initiatives of the National Program for Enhancing Economic Diversification. (Tanfeedh) in the mining and fisheries sectors, as well as commitment of the private sector to Omanize jobs that could be occupied by Omanis in these sectors after training
