Lebanese government forces have been deployed Monday in southern Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold, to restore order, interior minister Marwan Charbel said. The two Lebanese movements set around 44 check points to examine identities of people entering the area. The move followed an a blast in Rweis area on August 15 that killed at leas 25 people and injured dozens others. The checkpoint caused traffic congestions at many areas in southern Beirut, triggering dismay of citizens and politicians. The army deployed 300 forces, the internal security dispatched 450 troops while 100 servicemen were deployed by the general security command. They will be positioned at the entry and exist points of southern Beirut. Charbel said the Lebanese government forces were ready to restore order in southern Beirut.
