The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, stressed on Tuesday his keenness to support innovative, talented and educated citizens who will represent the country’s facade of civilization and its comprehensive renaissance. The President made these remarks while receiving a copy of the book ‘Abu Dhabi &and Pearls ... A story with a History’, compiled and edited by Dr Fatima Suhail Mohammed Abdullah Al Muhairi in collaboration with an elite group of researchers. Chairman of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Court Shaikh Hamed bBin Zayed Al Nahyan has written the preface to this book which highlights the importance of pearl diving in Abu Dhabi and its significant role in placing the Emirate as a destination for voyages throughout history. Al Hosn Research and Studies Centre had launched this book, during the last Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. ‘The Abu Dhabi & Pearls... A story with a Hhistory’ consists of two volumes. Each volume delves into nine main topics, including: a general introduction into the makeup and history of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the history of specific islands in the Emirate, the Islamic Empire, European presence in the region, a modern history of Abu Dhabi, British presence in the Emirate, social life in Abu Dhabi, in addition to details on folklore and cultural aspects. The President also listened to a briefing by Executive Director of the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) Dr Abdullah Ahmed Al Mandoos on the activities of the Centre. The President praised the role played by NCMS and offered the support to develop its capabilities. The meetings were attended by Shaikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region; Shaikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan; Lt-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs; other Shaikhs and senior officials.
