Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, has called on Tehran and Rabat to capitalize on their current capacities and cooperation to revamp and consolidate their bilateral ties, according to Iranian News Agency Tasnim.
During a meeting held Saturday with Morocco’s Ambassador to Iran, Hassan Hami, Rouhani said, “Development of the ties between Iran and Morocco is in the interests of both nations and the region.”
Rouhani added that, “We should tap the existing capacities and potentials to expand and strengthen ties and cooperation between the two countries.” He continued, saying, “in addition to economic relations, Tehran ad Rabat can cooperate in other areas, including culture and science.”
For his part, Hami hailed the efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran to contribute to “the resolution of the international issues through dialogue,” noting that Morocco appreciates its position to deal with these issues through diplomacy and dialogue.”
After seven years of diplomatic breaks and estrangement, the two countries recently revamped their diplomatic relationship. King Mohammed VI appointed Hami as an ambassador to Iran, on October 13, 2016 at the Royal Palace in Casablanca.
In 2015, Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Salaheddine Mezouar, expressed Rabat’s determination to re-open Morocco-Iran diplomatic channels.
