The Sharjah Police have intensified efforts to maintain security during the holy month of Ramadan, which witnesses spread of many negative phenomena.
Based on the directives of Brigadier Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, the police have upgraded their security preparedness from the beginning of the holy month.
Brigadier-General Mohammad Rashid Bayat, director-general of police operations at the Sharjah Police, confirmed that the department is well prepared to ensure the safety of the public, putting up plans to eliminate the negative phenomena including begging, use and sale of fireworks, illegal sale of goods and exploiting parking in front of mosques.
He stressed that the public can play a vital role in curbing these phenomena by immediately informing the police about any such activity.
"The Sharjah Police have taken several measures to combat these crimes, which increase during the holy month of Ramadan. These include intensifying patrols on all internal roads and highways, and areas near the mosques where Taraweeh prayers are held.
Efforts to curb sale of fireworks, begging
Colonel Ibrahim Musabah Al Ajiil, director of the department of criminal investigation, said that necessary plans have been put in place to reduce any crime. "Awareness initiatives were launched to educate the public about the dangers of showing empathy to beggars. Community members have been asked to offer charity only through legitimate channels represented by recognised charity foundations," he said, adding that initiatives were also launched to spread awareness about the danger of fireworks.
He pointed out that the department, in cooperation with the community police department, has intensified inspection targeting shops and street vendors who sell fireworks.
Police initiatives in ?Eastern Region
Colonel Mohammed Rashid Alobed, director of the Eastern Region police department, said that the department has prepared security plans to provide the best police services to the public.
Brigadier Ali Saif Al Nadas, director of the community police department at the Sharjah Police, said: "Within the framework of the Year of Giving initiatives, we have launched the 'Have Iftar with Us' initiative, which is aimed at distributing Iftar meals to motorists on the roads to minimise accidents that occur due to speeding at the Iftar time.
