The Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) has dismissed reports published by news websites that some Arab countries sought to withdraw Egypt's chairmanship of the Arab Civil Aviation Commission (ACAC).
In a statement Tuesday, the commission said such reports are bare of truth, pointing out that the majority of the member states of ACAC executive council had called for changing the director, who is Egyptian, and replacing him with another Egyptian, the matter which confirms the decision was not politically motivated.
It appealed to media outlets to be accurate in publishing reports.
ACAC is an Arab specialized organization affiliated to the Arab League that aims to tighten cooperation and coordination among the Arab countries in civil aviation and develop this field. It was created on February 7, 1996 when its founding convention went into force.
It held its first general assembly on June 4-5, 1996. This convention was ratified so far by 20 Arab countries, while the rest of the Arab countries is in the process of ratification.
The purposes and objectives of the Commission are to provide civil aviation authorities in the Member States with a framework for joint action in order to develop general planning for civil aviation among Arab countries in order to increase and ensure its safety.
